Professional River Fishing Guide
Professional River Fishing Guide
I guide exclusively on the rivers here in Western Washington. Following is a typical day of fishing:
- You arrive the night before.
- Get a good night's sleep. I recommend the Forks Motel.
- We meet at the the
Forks Coffee Shop, have a great breakfast (you are responsible for your own meals) and then depart for the river.
We manage the physical float trip in one of two ways:
1) We drive to the river with two vehicles. I have my rig and boat on the trailer, and you bring your car. We launch the boat and then take the trailer to the take out point with both vehicles.
We then return to the launch point in the guest's vehicle, board the boat and drift down the river (6 -8 hours) to the take-out point. We load the boat in the trailer on my rig and then return you to your car.
2) There is a shuttle service available, where we do not need to use your vehilce.
The wildlife you may be able to see: bald eagles, river otters, elk, deer, osprey. On occasion, we even see bears, bobcats or mink. There are a lot of cougar in the area, but I have not seen one while on a fishing trip.
And then you even get to fish! Your chances of catching a trophy steelhead (if this is what you're after) are good. Many 20 lbs. plus are being harvested every year in the Quillayute system as well as the Hoh.
The Steelhead run begins about Thanksgiving with the hatchery fish being the most prominent. The wild fish begin returning to the streams about Christmastime.
The Spring Salmon run is about mid April through June and the Fall salmon begin approximately the 10th of October and run through mid November. (See Fish Species for Full Calendar)
